A monster Pumpkin takes over...

Unfortunately, there was no category in the South and South East in Bloom awards for largest pumpkin plant as the monster growing next to our greenhouse would surely have won us a place!

Pumpkin 22The picture shows the single plant overgrowing a wheelbarrow, two compost heaps and John Ely struggling to lift one of the four massive fruit. The plant was donated so we are not sure of the variety but we think it is a Hubbard's Green or “Anna Swartz Hubbard” squash so it should be delicious for eating.

We are hoping it will contribute to some Halloween cooking in the Centre during October.

Over the winter we shall be carrying out improvements to the soil in the raised beds, mulching around the fruit trees and planting spring bulbs.
