This year the Hale Community Centre’s “Get Growing@the Bungalow” Project achieved its first award from It’s Your Neighbourhood; the South & South East in Blooms’ major community participation programme, run on behalf of the RHS Britain in Bloom Campaigns.
Hale Community Centre (formerly Sandy Hill Community Bungalow) has received £10,000 over the last two years from the People’s Health Trust to create a community garden. The garden just outside the Centre’s main entrance now has an established fruit and vegetable garden where groups involved in the project have been able to share their experience and knowledge to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables; tomatoes, beans, beetroot, salad vegetables, etc.
It’s Your Neighbourhood, part of the wider RHS Britain in Bloom initiative, uses benchmarking levels to recognise and applaud the achievements of the participants as well as to provide feedback and guidance for the future.
